What are Sessions and how are they different from MasterClass classes?
Sessions is a new hands-on format from MasterClass where you can learn alongside the world’s best by working on projects and activities as part of a structured curriculum in just 30 days. You will actively participate in the Sessions by sharing your work with an engaged community of your peers and getting feedback from trained Teaching Assistants.
While the curriculum will be structured for you to get from start to finish in 30 days, the content will be pre-recorded so you can maintain access to all Session materials and return to them anytime during your membership.
What is included in Sessions?
Sessions is an immersive learning experience. The curriculum is designed to be hands-on and is broken down into various sections and activities within that to make the learning experience more digestible. There will be instructor led videos, written guides, and a community to engage with for each Session to further your learning.
Your instructor will walk you through a structured curriculum with step-by-step instructions, but will also encourage you to challenge yourself beyond the Session content by encouraging you to explore your own creativity. You will uplevel your skills by learning the foundations from your instructor, following along as they create, discussing your progress with Teaching Assistants and a community of your peers, and then having a breakthrough by working on your own, personalized creation.
Are Sessions live and meant to be done during a specific time?
The Sessions curriculum is designed to be completed in 30-days and is broken up into small bite-sized activities with suggested due dates to help you stay accountable to your goals. However, you maintain access to the Session curriculum and materials after the 30-day period for the remainder of your MasterClass subscription. See our Terms of Service for more information.
The content will be pre-recorded so you can maintain on-demand access to all materials and return to them anytime during your membership. You can also continue to interact with your peers in the Sessions community after your 30 day Session. Finally, once you have completed the Session, you can continue to learn from the hundreds of other classes offered on MasterClass.
What happens if I don’t complete an activity by its due date?
In order to support a structured learning environment, we have due dates for each activity within the curriculum and encourage you to follow along to stay on track. However, if time becomes an issue and you complete activities late, we’ll help you get back on track. Nevertheless, completing activities on time is the best way to build momentum and receive actionable feedback from your peers and the Teaching Assistant.
Why can I not complete all the sections in a Session at once?
To help build accountability and provide a structured, immersive learning experience for you, future sections are not accessible until you have either completed the previous section or a due date has passed.
How can I get actionable feedback?
Sessions are designed to be a more immersive, hands-on learning experience. The Sessions are delivered by instructors that provide very detailed and structured guidance, as you make alongside them. To further uplevel your skills, we will also have Teaching Assistants that are able to answer your ongoing questions and provide meaningful feedback on your projects and activities.
We will also have a dynamic community where you can discuss with, share, support, and learn from your peers.
Am I able to interact with my instructor and Teaching Assistant?
Our instructors and Teaching Assistants may provide feedback to member questions or work in the community feed. To help you remain informed about the community activity, you will receive a notification if this happens.
What topics are covered in the Sessions?
A curriculum for each Session can be found on the MasterClass website on each Sessions’ overview page. Once on the Session-specific page, scroll down to see a description of which topics are covered in the Session.
What type of device / browser do I need?
Currently, you can view Sessions on Web and iOS (The app is currently optimized for iOS 14+ and you will need to update your MasterClass app into the latest version which is v11.0.0.). All browsers on the Web are supported.
Sessions is not currently supported on Android, but we hope to have it available soon!
How does the community work?
You can now learn alongside your peers by participating in the Sessions community. Through the community, you can see questions and projects posted by other students. You can also receive meaningful feedback from trained Teaching Assistants and the other members of the community on your posts.
What materials do I need to participate in a Session?
We will provide a checklist of materials needed to create your own work as you follow along and watch the Session. Additionally, there will be links to purchase the materials and guides to reference to help with your creation process.
Can I substitute ingredients or materials needed for an activity?
Yes, for each project we offer guides for you to reference that include substitute or alternative ingredients. Additionally, you can ask your peers and Teaching Assistants in the community for advice on alternative materials or ingredients and learn from their experience.
What happens after I complete a Session?
You can revisit the Session curriculum and activities at any time. You can also interact with your peers in the Session community by asking questions and encouraging each other to practice his or her craft. You can also learn from the hundreds of other classes offered through MasterClass.
Can I download the videos?
Currently, the videos are not available for download from the web or mobile.
How can I manage the privacy of my profile and projects?
When you submit your project during an activity, you will have the option to make your submission private. However, all posts made directly in the community will be visible (along with your profile) to the entire Session community.
How can I edit my profile information?
At the beginning of each Session you will be asked to confirm your name, add a profile photo, and indicate what brings you to this Session. After that, you can access your profile via the avatar at the top right corner of your screen and make edits there by clicking ‘Edit Profile’.
How can I report inappropriate content in the Session community feed?
The best way to report inappropriate content or spam on Sessions is by using the Report link (Tap/Click on ) on the post/comment itself. Please see our Community Guidelines for more details.
Will I receive a certificate of completion when I finish a Session?
Currently, we don't have an official certificate of completion for our Sessions, but we do send our students an email confirming they have completed the Session. The email will have a congratulatory message along with some tips on how to further engage with the community to continue improving your craft.
Can you rewatch videos and activities after they have been marked as done?
You can revisit any activities that you have completed. To revisit activities, click "Show Completed" at the top of the "My Activities" page. We keep past activities hidden by default to help keep you on track as you move through the session.
Where can I find and print supplemental materials (e.g. recipes or materials lists)?
With sessions, you get the chance to create alongside your instructor. We provide printable supplemental materials (e.g. recipes) in each section after the follow-along videos so you can have them in the future to re-create your bakes and build your skills. If you're having trouble finding them, check the bottom of activities for supplemental PDFs, guides, pro-tips and instructions. Hint: If you want to take the shopping checklist on-the-go, you can use the MasterClass iOS mobile app!
